Date:2020-06-01 12:07:00

The All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), Hubei government, and the China Society for Promotion of Guangcai Program jointly launched an investment promotion and poverty alleviation action on May 30, aiming at assisting Central China’s Hubei province, the epidemic-stricken area, in restoring economic and social development and winning the fight to eliminate poverty.

The opening ceremony was held in Beijing and Hubei together while broadcasted online with “cloud parallel sessions”, attracting tens of thousands of private enterprises to participate in donation, investment, consumption and industrial development programs.

Gao Yunlong, vice chairman of the CPPCC national committee and chairman of ACFIC, Xu Lejiang, vice minister of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee and head of ACFIC’s Party leadership, Ying Yong, Party chief of Hubei, and Wang Xiaodong, deputy Party secretary and governor of Hubei, attended the opening ceremony respectively in Beijing and Wuhan, capital city of Hubei. The ceremony was presided over by Fan Youshan, vice secretary and vice chairman of ACFIC.

Ying Yong extended appreciation towards the ACFIC and the participating entrepreneurs on behalf of the Hubei government and the 61 million people in Hubei.

He said that the ACFIC and private enterprises had played an important role in Hubei’s fight against COVID-19 by donating money and materials promptly, and now they launched this campaign to assist the post-epidemic restoration and poverty alleviation in Hubei, which not only displayed their social responsibility but also brought courage and support to the people in Hubei.

“Private enterprises play a crucial role in ensuring stable employment and economic growth, adjusting structure, and benefiting people’s livelihood. Hubei’s private enterprises have developed into an irreplaceable force for the region’s economic and social development,” he said.

He noted that the central government had issued a series of measures to help recover economic and social development, and Hubei government had been actively implementing the measures one by one. Hubei was impacted by the pandemic with unprecedented challenges. Yet, the newly-launched action plan will help optimize the region’s business environment, promote the healthy development of enterprises, and boost Hubei’s economic development after the epidemic outbreak.

Xu Lejiang said that the CPC Central Committee attached great importance to the social economic development and the work to ensure people’s livelihood in Hubei, which can be seen from President Xi Jinping’s inspection to Hubei in March and his joining in the Hubei panel during the two sessions.

“It is also the reason why we launch this action with the Hubei government and the China Society for Promotion of Guangcai Program. Private enterprises nationwide actively join in this action,” he said.

In fact, many private enterprises got impacted by the pandemic. However, they tried their best to join in the COVID-19 fight, which is not only a fulfillment of corporate social responsibility but also a demonstration of their patriotism.

At present, Hubei has pushed the button of “restoration” of social economy. That needs the support from private enterprises.

Xu said that ACFIC at all levels should actively strengthen the connection with local cities and counties, to offer more precise and convenient services to enterprises.

The online action consists of “provincial events plus city events” and “theme activities and panels”, and will last until June 3.

Before the ceremony and during the preparation of the campaign, many private enterprises had already conducted inspections and put forward docking programs.

By the day the action was launched, it has raised donations worth over 80 million yuan ($11.2 million) from nearly 100 private enterprises. It’s estimated the donation will benefit more than 40,000 Hubei poor villagers, who account for 71 percent of Hubei’s poverty population.
